National Conference on Law Enforcement Wellness and Trauma

WHY?

C.O.P.S. recognizes that every law enforcement officer is subjected to crisis and tragedy as a part of their job.  They see the most unthinkable acts of criminal behavior in our society.  But are we doing a good job helping officers navigate these events over a course of a twenty to thirty year career?

 

We continue to see officers suffering from PTSD in growing numbers.  Divorce rates continue to be higher for officers than the general public and tragically, too many officers choose to end their own lives each year.

 

 

WHO AND WHAT

This conference offers a much needed focus on officer wellness and the need to pro-actively address the cumulative stresses that can occur over an officer’s career.  This conference is for all law enforcement officers (active or retired) nationwide.  It is recommended for peer supporters, counselors, police chaplains and law enforcement spouses/significant others.  Law enforcement survivors are also welcome to attend.

 

Pre-registration is mandatory for all attendees.

FEES AND DEADLINE

The fee to attend is $300 per person. The registration fee covers classes, three meals (two conference lunches and dinner at Law Enforcement Appreciation Night) and two hospitality events. C.O.P.S. believes that spouses/significant others play a major role in the overall well-being of law enforcement officer wellness. Spouses/significant others who are attending with a registered participant may attend all classes, meals and hospitality events at a reduced rate of $125.

1. Where do I register for National Law Enforcement Conference?

Individuals can register online at concernsofpolicesurvivors.org, under the National Conference tab.

 

2. How do we pay for registrations separately?

Individuals are able to pay for registration separately by using two separate registrations or the online registration contains a “NOTES” field, individuals are able to explain special circumstances and clarify payment instructions, and/or note who they are planning on registering with.

 

3. I have a silent auction item?

Individuals wanting to donate an item to the Silent Auction may bring the item to the National Conference and check in with the Silent Auction Registration Desk, located in the COPS SHOP. Contact the C.O.P.S. Development office with any questions.

 

4. What if I am waiting on agency to pay for my registration?

There is an option “waiting on agency approval” on the registration online. This will allow the participant to register for the conference under a “pending’ status. Payment will need to be received before the registration deadline October 20, 2018.

 

5. Where is the hotel located and how do I reserve a room?

Participants are responsible for their individual travel and lodging. The conference will be held at:

Participants can reserve rooms with the discounted C.O.P.S. rate of $137.00 plus tax. In order to receive this discounted rate, reservations must be made by October 20, 2018. Reservations can be made by contacting the Hilton Reservation Line at 1- 800-984-1344. Be sure to mention you are part of the C.O.P.S. National Conference Block to receive the discounted rate.

 

6. Can I get an Agenda for the conference?

There is an Agenda Summary on the C.O.P.S. website. A more detailed agenda is in progress and individuals will receive a final confirmation email outlining conference details and agenda prior to the conference date.  Also, an agenda book will be provided to all registered participants at registration/check-in.

 

7. How do I register for the 5k Run?

Individuals may register for the 5k Run on the C.O.P.S. National website under National Conference Lights & Sirens 5k tab.

 

8. When does the conference start? End?

9. What does the registration fee cover, are meals provided during conference?

The conference fee covers classes, three meals (two lunches and Law Enforcement Appreciation Night) and networking room. If you secure a room from the host hotel, an additional breakfast voucher will also be provided.  Spouse/Significant others are encouraged to attend at a discounted rate of $125.

 

10. How do I cancel my registration?

In the event you need to cancel your registration, please contact Lissa McCabe. Registration cancellations made prior to the October 20, 2018 registration deadline will receive a refund. Any cancellations received after October 20, 2018 WILL NOT RECEIVE A REFUND for their registration fee.
